Why the need for a site like MyZone.co.za?
With the constant growth of social websites, more people are "meeting" more people, online and off. And our online identities are dispersed over a number (often quite a high number) of online properties, and it is difficult to keep track. Wouldn't it be nice if you could go to ONE site, search for a person and find out the basic info about that person, as well as links to their other online spaces? That's what MyZone.co.za is aimed to achieve. Isn't MyZone competing with Facebook and Linkedin?
Actually, no. First of all, MyZone is focused on South Africa only, not just for members but also for readers (we explain why that is significant below). Facebook is focussed on helping you make new friends, and maintaining your existing friendships. And it does that very well. MyZone is focussed on telling the world who you are, rather than what you are doing every minute of the day. Linkedin *is* a very similar model, but with MyZone we are taking the focus away from networking "out" (where the intent is for you to meet many new people) and focussing on networking "in" (where many people find you). And we don't only focus on your work life, but all aspects of who you are. Why is the fact that MyZone is South African-focussed significant?
Because when you know that your profile will be accessed by people who are also South African, you can be more South African in your profile! For example, in your profile you can talk about Nando's, boerewors, the Sunday Times, Zuma, Joost and Isidingo....and others will know what you are talking about! This also helps when you are trying to market your professional skills or talking about your education. Knowing that you are speaking to this niche audience will help you "sell" yourself more eloquently and efficiently. Why is there a "Free" level?
Because we understand the strength of numbers: the more people who sign up for MyZone.co.za and use it, the more powerful a tool it will become. In our wildest goals, everyone who has an online connection will have a profile here, and we don't want money to stand in the way of that!Why is there a "Premium" level?
Because someone has to pay for the hosting costs! And because some people will derive far more value out of MyZone.co.za than others...people like professional consultants, lawyers, industry experts etc. MyZone.co.za can become a very good marketing tool for them, and they will be given extra (paid for) tools and features to make that a reality. Either way, our subscription costs have been set very low (cheaper than printing a batch of business cards, for example). Won't I get spammed?
We hope not. We don't encourage anyone to give out their email addresses on the site, as this will result in more spam. In most cases, we only allow messaging to happen between connected friends, so you are quite in control of who can message you. And you are fully in control as to how those messages get delivered: they can either go straight to your email (we don't give out your email address, ever) or they can stay in your MyZone inbox.
